Women in Medicine

I want to clarify the fact that being a female applicant to medical school does not give one an advantage. According to AMCAS (http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantmatriculant/table7-fact2009summa...), 47.9% of applicants to medical school in 2009 were female; 52.1% were male. The acceptance rates are exactly the same percentage - 47.9% female and 52.1% male. For the 5 years before 2009, a lower percentage of female applicants were accepted than applied, invalidating the erroneous belief that being a female applicant is advantageous. Please be considerate and informed before making any remarks that could be disparaging towards others.
