What are some good pre-med majors? (eg. get prereqs done etc.)
I am currently a Chemistry major, but I was thinking of changing. Does anyone like the Neuroscience major? I want to do something I like but that also knocks out most of the prerequisites for medical school.
flynneffect,
I am also a neuroscience major, and will agree with everything that Ben said. BYU's neuroscience program, though small, is very good. They even have their own advanced writing class: Neuro 316. I find the subject matter fascinating as well as testimony building. Only a God could have created something as sophisticated as the human brain.
Some of the classes are continually changing, as well. For instance, I am in Sensation & Perception (one of the electives for the major) right now. Many of the studies cited in the book and in class are fairly recent studies (within the 1986-2004 range) and a lot of what was known yesterday (quite literally) has changed today. It really is one of the frontiers of science.
Last, but certainly not least, there are many neuroscience research opportunities to take advantage of. If you are interested in studying neuroscience, i would also recommend researching with one of the professors. Hope that helps!

I third the Neuroscience motion: it covers all the classes you need and is fascinating. However, PD Bio is also pretty cool if you want to focus on the whole body rather than just the brain. If Chemistry is really your thing, then stick with it, but if you're doing it to impress the admissions committee, go ahead and bail. And good luck in whatever you choose!

I'm a neuroscience major and I love it! The major specific classes (neurobiology, neuroanatomy, advanced neuroscience) can be really tough, but also really rewarding. There are not a lot of classes required, and by completing the major you complete almost all of the pre-med requirements. Overall, I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for an interesting major that helps prepare them for medical school.
