Minors

I was considering some non-science minors to make myself look a little more "well-rounded" in the eyes of medical schools. Do medical schools even care about minors or are they just a waste of time?

Agreed
I agree with Ben. I got a Spanish minor because I want to work in third-world countries or with immigrant populations, as a doctor. If there is something outside of science that interests you, your undergraduate years will be probably the best opportunity you have to explore and study it seriously. Take advantage of that, through a minor! If not, I honestly don't think it will hurt you in terms of getting into medical school.

That would be a good questions to ask to a member of the admissions committee at medical schools. I know we have various ones visit us every year. However, my own opinion is that it's worth doing the minor if it's something that you're interested in and if you feel it will help you in life, not just getting into medical school. I believe that the experiences you have as an undergraduate only help you get into medical school if those experiences actually mean something to you. If you do something just to boost your resume, it usually ends up being very shallow and usually fairly meaningless. Having said that, I'm getting a business minor with the hopes that I'll learn some things that will help me manage my personal finances and if I'm ever in a management position in the medical field hopefully I'll be better prepared. It won't hurt your application, but it might be a waste of time if there's not a deeper motivation to it.
